The WEF is developing a “blockchain rights charter”

The World Economic Forum wishes to help build trust and preserve the fundamental values ​​around the blockchain. Several signatories, including ConsenSys, Deloitte and the Colombia, have already joined the initiative.

In a press release, the World Economic Forum (WEF) unveiled its charter dedicated to blockchain and based on the " Presidio principles ", Namely" fundamental values ​​for a decentralized future ".

The latter thus brings together a twenty principles that help design applications that respect user rights, particularly in terms of transparency, accessibility, right to information, confidentiality, security, interoperability and governance.

For example, a participant should be able to easily understand the risks and benefits potential of using a service based on the blockchain.

Among the first members, there are several entities gravitating aroundEthereum, one of the main blockchain application networks, like Ethereum foundation or the studio ConsenSys.

As open source and decentralized systems continue to move forward, we have seen how difficult it can be to develop guidelines that apply to different and scalable blockchain projects […] Fortunately and thanks to the hard work of everyone involved, I believe the Principles will provide a high-level framework that can really help these critical conversations to continue throughout the life of the technology, ”commented Aya Miyaguchi , director of the Ethereum foundation.

For Joseph Lubin, founder of ConsenSys, the Presidio principles are a "valuable next step in creating responsibility across the blockchain ecosystem".

Other major players in the sector, such as Everledger, OmiseGo, Hyperledger or Electric Coin Company (Zcash), also joined the initiative.

Our values ​​and our commitment to high standards of user consent, security and organizational transparency is highly aligned with the principles of Presidio, ”commented Zooko Wilcox, CEO of Electric Coin Company.

There are also large firms like Accenture and Deloitte, initiatives such as the Digital Governance and Impact Initiative (DIGI) and the United Nations World Food Program or the Colombian government.

We supported the creation of the Presidio principles – as well as guidelines and design principles for public institutions – because we wanted to ensure that progress could continue quickly and responsibly, ensuring that the characteristics of basics such that data security and confidentiality are guaranteed for our citizens, ”said Victor Munoz, Presidential Advisor for Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation of Colombia.
