TLC memories with MLC durability, the latest creation of ATP Electronics

ATP Electronics has unveiled its new NAND memory chips, which could finally make us stop complaining about the transition from MLC to TLC and only look with horror at the transition from TLC to QLC. The A750Pi and A650Si / Sc SSDs have just debuted, with NAND TLC systems with MLC durability.

TLC memories with MLC strength

As a reminder, TLC and MLC are short for Triple Level Cell and Multi Level Cell, respectively, which means the way memory chips work. Just like SLC (Single Level Cell) writes 1 bit of data per cell, MLC already writes two and TLC as many as three. The higher it is, the capacity increases, but it is associated with lower durability. That is why we are making our nose at the slow transition to QLC, which will be even worse in this regard.

However, ATP Electronics has proven that SSD endurance can be improved and its drives deliver 66% more endurance in native TLC mode and 50% more endurance in pseudo-SLC (pSLC) mode. This in turn makes the A750Pi and A650Si / Sc models equal to SSDs with MLC and SLC dice, respectively, and themselves are available in 2280 and 2242 M.2 formats, as well as 2.5 ″ and mSATA.

The biggest problem? These drives are intended for the professional market, so for a long time (how much? We don’t know) we will only be able to watch and read about how this TLC has rivaled the endurance of MLC and SLC in a special mode of operation.
