TRX40 Taichi and Creator, ASRock motherboards for Threadripper 3000

ASRock announced two motherboards dedicated to the new Ryzen Threadripper 3000 CPUs, TRX40 Creator is TRX40 Taichi. The TRX40 Taichi is the standard bearer, mainly dedicated to enthusiasts, while the TRX40 Creator is intended mainly for workstations and the “prosumer” public who want the best professional features.

TRX40 Taichi it has an ATX form factor and the classic fencing of black and silver colors with gears on the heat sinks. The motherboard has 16 phases, 90A Dr. MOS inductors, 12K black Nichicon capacitors and an 8-layer PCB.

The CPU socket is powered by two 8-pin connectors and the entire VRM area is cooled by a large aluminum alloy heat sink which is accompanied by two fans for cooling. All together with a heatpipe that transfers heat from the VRM to the heat sink near the rear of the I / O.

There are eight DDR4 slots that can support up to 256 GB of DDR4 memory up to 4666 MHz (OC +). There are also three PCIe 4.0 x16 slots (x16, x16, x16) and one PCIe 4.0 x1. The three x16 slots are reinforced with steel shielding. There are two Hyper M.2 slots and eight SATA III slots. All M.2 slots can also be “hidden” under the front cover of the motherboard.

The added ports include a front USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, power on / off switch, a reset switch, a debug screen and a pair of USB 3.0 connectors for the front panel. The ASRock TRX40 Taichi is accompanied by a Hyper Quad M.2 AIC card which allows to have four other M.2 solutions on an external card with active cooling.

The motherboard also has two Ethernet connectors (Realtek 2.5G / Intel Gigabit), in addition to Wi-Fi 6. Among the I / O ports we find seven USB 3.2 ports including two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type A (10 Gb / s) and one USB 3.2 Gen2x2 Type C ( 20 Gb / s).

There TRX40 Creator it has a form factor ATX and has a 8-phase VRM and the same high-end components as the Taichi. The motherboard has a large size heatsink on the VRM, which does not lack a fan. The CPU socket is powered by two 8-pin connectors and there are eight DDR4 slots again with support for 256 GB of memory up to 4666 MHz (OC +).

Motherboard TRX40

The motherboard has four PCIe 4.0 x16 slots and there are also three Hyper M.2 slots covered by ASRock M.2 Armor heatsinks. PCH is actively dissipated. There are 8 SATA III ports and just below a 6-pin power connector to power multi-board configurations. Since it is a Creator, there is no shortage two Ethernet ports (Aquantia AQC107 10G + Dragon RTL8125AG 2.5G) and the same number of USB ports as the Taichi.

This form also benefits from a form Wi-Fi 802.11ax, Bluetooth 5.0 and RGB lighting. Prices have not yet been announced and availability will coincide with the launch of the Ryzen Threadripper 3000 series on November 25th.
