TSMC delays production to 3nm by six months due to lack of equipment, 5nm will not be affected

HD Tecnología

Just like what happened with Samsung, TSMC will be forced to delay production of its 3nm process to six months later than expected due to the lack of equipment generated by the recent factory closings.

Not only was the mass production of the wafers delayed to 3nm, but the first tests, which were scheduled between June and July, were delayed and will finally begin in December. In this way, TSMC's 3nm production is also expected to be delayed to 2022 as it happened to Samsung, so neither will start the battle with a time advantage over the rival.

In the meantime, both companies will continue to offer their node at 5nm, which is ready to go to market at any time. In fact, TSMC has already secured clients such as Apple, Qualcomm and AMD for its 5nm node, fully occupying its initial production capacity and ensuring a good market share even if its 3nm is delayed.
