TSMC, new foundry arriving in the USA. $ 12 billion in investment

TSMC will open a new chip foundry in the United States: The announcement is official, and mentions an agreement between the Taiwanese company, the American federal government and the state of Arizona. The transaction will cost TSMC $ 12 billion between now and 2029, and work will begin in 2021; the plant is expected to be operational by 2024. The first production process will be in 5 nm; the factory will directly create 1,600 jobs, to which all related activities will be added (the release generically mentions "thousands of jobs in the semiconductor ecosystem").
