Unique smartphone LG Wing received a mediocre camera

Last year, LG announced a unique smartphone LG Wing, which has acquired a rotating display. A second screen is hidden behind it, which significantly expands the capabilities of the device. For example, on the main panel you can watch videos, and on the additional panel you can chat in instant messengers. The second use case is playing games on a 6.8 “display and control buttons on a 3.8”.

As it turned out, the camera used by LG Wing is not the best. This became clear after the photo and video capabilities of the smartphone were tested by French experts from the not very unambiguous DxOMark office.

With a result of 110 points, the model took a place in the end of the third ten. The two-year-old flagship Xiaomi Mi 9 is gaining the same number. The model of the South Korean company turned out to be higher than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, OPPO Reno4 Pro 5G, OnePlus Nord, iPhone Xs Max and Huawei P20 Pro, which in 2018 topped the DxOMark camera phone rating.

Photographing LG Wing was rated 110 points. Moreover, DxOMark even managed to give a rating to the telephoto lens, which the smartphone does not have. He received 79 points, and specifically for the zoom was awarded 63 points. The ultra wide-angle camera scores 39 points. The video is recorded by a model of the company from Seoul with 102 points.

Despite the fact that the indicators are far from ideal, experts found more pluses than minuses in the camera. Strengths include neutral white balance and natural color rendition, minimum digital noise, high-quality background blur, high level of detail when shooting video, as well as stable exposure.

There are also disadvantages. The first is the imperfect autofocus performance. The second is the limited dynamic range when HDR is activated. The third is a low level of detail in photos. Also, video stabilization is not high quality, and artifacts are encountered when shooting.

Although the LG Wing costs almost $ 1,000, the smartphone is equipped not with a flagship mobile processor, but with a mid-range Snapdragon 765G single-chip system. The main camera has three optical modules, two of which received ultra-wide-angle optics – 12 megapixels, f / 2.2, 120 degrees and 13 megapixels, f / 1.9, 117 degrees. The main module has a 64-megapixel 1 / 1.72-type image sensor. There is also autofocus, optical stabilization and support for shooting videos in 4K ULTRA HD format at up to 60 FPS.
