US Air Force injects blockchain to secure communications

As part of its innovation program AFWERX, thereUS Air Force signed a contract with the provider of a data security platform based on the blockchain, Fluree.

In the field military, the secure communications is critical. To strengthen the protection of its trade in this sector, theAmerican Air Force go then lean on technologies blockchain.

As part of the technological innovation program AFWERX, the US Department of Defense (DoD) selected the data management platform of Fluree. The startup, which raised $ 4.7 million in June, will provide a secure solution for the benefit of the US Air Force.

The platform blockchain will thus allow to offer "secure command and control communications on a global scale using an encrypted graphic database, distributed and supported by a blockchain shared between partners. "

The security and theinteroperability were the two main criteria defined by the Air Force for this project. Fluree will meet these requirements by exploiting the cryptography specific to the blockchain and thanks to configurable rules written directly in the distributed register, allowing interoperable communications within the network of the DoD and its global partners.

The Fluree solution is based on a blockchain architecture for security while supporting the storage of large volumes of data according to the FAIR data principles in the integrated graphic database, ”explains the co-CEO of the publisher, Brian Platz.

As part of this military contract, Fluree Its mission would also be to identify the specific needs of internal Defense Department customers and develop a plan for a prototype deployment of its platform to interact with existing DoD systems.

Other military uses of the blockchain are being considered around the world. In China, for example, the Army is exploring this technology to better manage personnel data, improve mission performance, and provide its soldiers with a better reward system.

In France, explorations around the blockchain are also underway. Last May, the Department of Defense organized a hackathon covering several use cases identified by the business lines, including the traceability of the use of accounts on information systems.
