Another test brings the US Air Force closer to reaching for armed transport aircraft in practice

This program is to prove that you can easily and quickly convert transport planes into combat planes. To this end, the system’s potential is developed and explored roll on roll-offwhich includes the use of special ammunition on pallets. This one was tested in a recent demonstration.

The test involved the use of modernized long-range maneuvering missiles (without a warhead). These were dropped from the MC-130J aircraft after the command ordered a BMS change of data regarding the target of the attack in the form of a test.

In flight, the “armed pallet” had four of the aforementioned missiles and three simulation missiles. The former were dumped from the pallet, spread their wings and tail for aerodynamic control, and hit their intended target. Plans are now underway to test powered missiles in exactly the same way.
