USB-C only charging on new equipment. The European Union wants unification

Are you going on a trip and taking a few cables with you just to charge your gadgets? In the future, this problem will be forgotten if the European Parliament adopts a new regulation forcing wired charging only via USB-C in new devices. After its entry into force, this will provide manufacturers with 24 months to make appropriate changes.

Although USB-C is becoming an increasingly used port in everyday gadgets, we can still find examples of devices using, among others microUSB. However, once the new regulations enter into force, all mobile devices, including smartphones, tablets, cameras, headphones, portable speakers and handheld game consoles, will only allow USB-C charging for wired options. The wireless ones will remain the same.

Such EU plans also raise an important question – what about Apple? How will the company overcome this requirement while stubbornly sticking to its Lightning port? There are chances that it will either attach adapters to the sets for European Union countries, which may not go through the law, or it will simply switch to wireless charging.

Interestingly, the EU Commission wants to go a step further and, in addition to forcing the use of USB-C, it would also like to harmonize the fast charging technology that would be compatible with all chargers and devices. All this to ensure the same speeds when charging any device. There are even plans to force companies not to include charger kits (Apple predicted the future?) To further reduce the problem of electronic waste.
