What's happening to Samsung's 3nm manufacturing process?

Samsung revealed details about its future at a recent conference. Unfortunately, Samsung’s 3nm manufacturing process is not doing very well, which meant the company had to delay it.

With Samsung’s 3nm manufacturing process, there will be huge gains, but we’ll wait longer for them

Originally, mass production of semiconductor chips for 3GAE (3nm Gate-All-Around Early) and 3GAP (3nm Gate-All-Around Plus) technologies was expected to begin later this year. However, Samsung was forced to postpone this point until the first half of 2022.

The exact dates and the reason for this delay are not given, but most likely Samsung is simply looking to improve the manufacturing process in pursuit of greater yield and therefore overall supply, being able to deliver more chips to its customers.

There is definitely something to wait, because according to official information, with Samsung’s 3 nm production process, productivity increases by 35% and energy savings by 50% will come compared to the older, 7 nm process of the company. However, we do not know how Samsung’s 3 nm will look like against TSMC’s 3 nm background, but everything that is most important will be revealed at the beginning of 2022.
