Windows 10 21H1, the first builds will be released in June on the Fast Channel

Windows 10 20H1 May 2020 Update could revive older computers: here's how

Recently, the release methods of the various preview versions of Windows 10 they have changed several times, and the roll-out plans in the various channels are no longer clear. Within the Windows Insider program there are several channels, including that "Fast" which now should receive continuously only pre-release builds not related to a specific version of the operating system. However, something unexpected happened recently.

In short, some branch builds appeared within the Fast Channel "Mn_release". What does it mean? "MN" a method that Microsoft uses to abbreviate Manganese, or the code name of the Windows 10 20H2 version that we should see debuting later this year. To increase the confusion there is the fact that the builds appeared in the Fast Channel are not part of the 20H2, which will be a minor update (like the 19H2) due to the delay of Windows 10X.

The new builds of the mn_release branch are therefore the result of something that is changing in that of Microsoft, due to the decisions of the last few months. After Manganese he will arrive Iron, or Windows 10 21H1 (following the nomenclature, the version of the operating system that will arrive in early 2021), and within a post on the WSL blog, Microsoft itself has confirmed that it is planning the release of the first builds of the Iron branch in June in the Fast Channel.

This is not an official confirmation, given that the company's plans are rather fluid and could change at any time. Windows 10 21H1, therefore, you will get all the news we have seen recently on the Veloce Channel and the new features that we will see until the end of the year and which will remain until the release of the version to the public. Some of these are already known, such as small visual changes to the Start menu or the emulation of the x64 apps on Windows on ARM.

The Insider program born with more linear modalities, but evolved over time together with the Windows 10 development process. Over the years, more or less serious shortcomings in the management of operating system updates have come out, with releases not always stable and reliable for all users. With better thought out roll outs and a new reorganization of the Windows Insider program the situation seems to have improved, but a very important test case will be Windows 10 May 2020 Update, the first major update released in the past 12 months. The roll-out should start on May 28, but it is already possible to download the ISOs and install it on your system.
