Windows 10, problems with Wi-Fi, lost data and BSOD after the last update

Last week, on the occasion of the April Patch Tuesday, Microsoft has released the latest updates for all supported versions of Windows 10. It was a rather important update, given that the la build 18363.778 (KB4549951) for Windows 10 version 1909 has implemented several fixes on the Office suite. It seems, however, that not everything went as planned.

L'latest update for Windows 10 1909 (on Amazon for less than € 15, for the Pro version) it seems to have generated numerous problems not foreseen on some users' systems. According to the reports of the latter appeared on the official Microsoft forums, the build 18363.778 caused several complications: among the most reported ones we have problems with Wi-Fi, data loss and also BSOD.

BSOD with Windows 10 1909 build 18363.778

When Microsoft released build 18363.778, it did not report any of the problems mentioned recently. However, it seems that several users [1, 2, 3] have encountered BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) following last week's update. One of them wrote on the official developer forum:

"I haven't been able to use my computer since the last update of Windows 10, which was run on the night of April 15, 2020. The update made my computer totally unusable. The only thing I can get after making the access is the blue screen of death. The computer does not start and is unable to set Safe Mode. "

Wi-Fi connectivity issues and data loss

There were also reports of problems with WiFi connectivity and, separately, data loss in the worst cases. Specifically, a user reports that "all files in the Documents folder older than a week have been deleted without warning". The user also wrote that he had not found any trace in the Trash and has not had the opportunity to recover them even via recovery.

So what to do? For now, the only way to get around the problems is uninstall build 18363.778 (KB4549951) from Windows 10. We recommend doing this only to users impacted by the reported problems, and only if the problems are really serious, since the April Patch Tuesday presents corrections on important security vulnerabilities.
