Windows 11 still has problems, and cuts the performance of NVMe SSDs

The latest Microsoft operating system, Windows 11, appears to be causing severe performance losses in the SSD NVMe, as reported by several users. It seems that several SSD models of different brands are affected by this problem.

CrystalDiskMark benchmarks revealed by various users show that for example Samsung’s SSD 980 Pro or Corsair P600 have severely system limited write performance. The problem occurs when Windows 11 is installed on the device used, even when it is not loading at the time of testing.

Although many of the reports published so far mostly involve devices made by Samsung, NVMe memories from all manufacturers are affected by the limitation. The problem is not exactly new: during the Windows 11 beta, many of those who tested the operating system had already announced the presence of this limitation.

Since the problem affects all manufacturers, it is unlikely that a solution developed by one of them will be able to correct the problem. So hopefully Microsoft will release an update that will allow users to take full advantage of the devices’ capacity.

It is not good to have one of these SSDs and because of a Windows problem it does not have the performance it should have, also they are not cheap, they are the most expensive.

The half solution …

While the company does not release a solution for Windows 11, it appears that disabling virtualization-based security (VBS) can restore some of the lost speed. However, the results obtained with Windows 10 are still better, which contributes to the arguments of those who still prefer to wait to change the operating system of their PCs.
