Working with the blockchain was more complicated than with other digital innovations

Swiss giant Nestlé said it had to adopt a “startup mentality” to move forward in developing a blockchain project.

Armin Nehzat, Nestlé’s Digital Technology Manager, spoke about this.
in an interview with TechWire Asia. Nestlé recently launched project whose goal is to allow Nestlé customers to track the company’s products using the blockchain in order to provide more transparent information about their origin and production.

Nekhzat emphasized that the project turned out to be much more complex than many of the company’s other initiatives in the field of digital innovations, which prompted the organization to completely overestimate its traditional methods of doing business:

“We tested how fast we can move as an organization to completely redefine how we do business. From product tracking at the micro level, through individual tracking to end users […]. We are looking at how this initiative can be extended to other product offerings. Therefore, I think this is more a long-term journey than a short-term initiative. ”

He added that the development of blockchain solutions by retailers is more than just a fashion trend, and it aims to provide real benefits:

“We believe that the blockchain allows organizations like Nestlé to ensure supply chain transparency, but our ultimate goal is to provide consumers with quality products.”

In July, McDonald’s, Nestlé and Virgin Media launched
Test the blockchain solution in the field of advertising. In mid-summer, the company said
on creating your own blockchain platform for supply chain tracking.

Previously, the company used the IBM Food Trust blockchain platform, and in the spring of this year, Nestlé, the French supermarket chain Carrefour and IBM joined forces to use the blockchain to track product supply chains.
