Two years after driving Car View, this simplified Spotify car mode will say goodbye to our smartphones once and for all. It is official, and it was announced by one of the users surprised by the lack of Car View mode in the application, the company’s moderator, who said that this lack is “necessary to give way to new innovations”.
Spotify is retiring Car View. We say goodbye to simplified car mode
In 2019, Spotify announced a special Car View mode that was definitely effective in preventing drivers from distracting while driving. After connecting the phone with the car via Bluetooth, unnecessary elements such as menu buttons and album covers disappeared from the interface. Instead, the Spotify application provided large buttons for pausing and playing music, or jumping between songs.

Now, however, Spotify has started to withdraw Car View from its application, and the moderator mentioned (via Android Police) suggested using the Google Assistant to control Spotify hands-free, which also worked when navigating with Google or Apple Maps. This is probably the reason why the company decided to take such a step, because now there are many other ways to handle music playback in cars. For example, for cars with CarPlay or Android Auto, the control is best done through the display on the dashboard, and for the older ones – simply from the steering wheel.
