ADATA XPG SX300 64 – (ASX300S3-64GM-C)

The only model among the considered solutions that comes in a full box.

Although it contains only a plastic blister with the drive itself, nothing else can be found in the box beyond that.

The pedigree of flash memory and its characteristics are hidden under unknown markings.

One thing is clear – LSI SandForce SF-2281 is used as a controller. But the memory used remained a mystery. According to a number of indirect indications, this is a 25 nm MLC NAND manufactured by IMFT, operating in asynchronous mode. ADATA took advantage of the ability to manage the size of the spare area of ​​the drive, provided by the manufacturer of microcontrollers SandForce by LSI at the beginning of 2012, as a result, we have an SSD with 6.87% of the reserve from the total volume, and not the traditional for SandForce 12.7%. Therefore, the volume available to the user is 64 GB.

The drive is equipped with firmware version 5.0.Bb. Of the additional software, only the regular LSI flasher is offered:

Pay attention to elements D1 and D2 on the front side of the board at the edge farthest from the interface and power connectors.

These are blue LEDs that indicate read and write data to the SSD. The presence of these should be taken into account when assembling a computer with modding elements, since they flash / burn very brightly.

Crucial M4 64 GB (CT064M4SSD3)

The Crucial M4 comes in a plastic blister similar to the Plextor M5M.

But unlike Plextor labels rich in characteristics, here you will not find any information about a specific product instance, even the firmware version should be considered with the plastic of the package on the case itself.

This “solid state” is almost entirely produced by Micron itself (Crucial is a trademark): a synchronous MLC NAND Micron, produced according to a rather old 25 nm process technology, and a 128 MB DDR3 buffer memory chip. Only the controller was released by Marvell and it is also quite old – Marvell 88SS9174 (now 88SS9187 is relevant). Moreover, this is a full-fledged controller for ordinary SSDs, and not its mobile version 88SS9175.
