AMD confirms that its graphics cards will only support RayTracing via non-proprietary APIs

Just yesterday we mentioned that UL Benchmarks released a new benchmark to evaluate RayTracing’s performance over the DirectX 12 API, thus using the Microsoft implementation called DXR.

Today, as we see on AdoredTV, AMD has specified its position regarding the support for RayTracing in its Radeon RX 6000 Series, because although for example in NVIDIA graphics cards it is clear when a game supports NVIDIA RTX, In order to have two different implementations on the market, it might not be so simple.

AMD’s statement indicates that the company will support all titles that make use of standards that we can find in the industry, like the API Microsoft DXR and the next RayTracing API for VulkanWhile games that make use of proprietary APIs or extensions will not be supported by AMD, clearly referring to those games designed to work with the NVIDIA RayTracing API.

This means that the titles they currently use Microsoft DXR or will they use the Vulkan RayTracing API in the future they can be played without any problem with the new graphics cards AMD Radeon RX 6000 Series, while the games that are designed for NVIDIA graphics cards such as Wolfenstein: Youngblood or Quake II RTX they will not be able to use RayTracing.
