AMD gives Radeon HD 7950 turbo function

At the beginning of the summer, AMD launched the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition, where the main points were increased clock frequencies and a new turbo function for extra performance in pressured situations. According to Techpowerup, the same treatment now reaches the Radeon HD 7950, with the hope of better meeting Nvidia’s upcoming Geforce GTX 660 Ti.

AMD Radeon HD 7950 “with boost” reportedly gets an increased base frequency to 850 MHz GPU, from the previous 800 MHz. At the same time, a turbo function is introduced with the ability to step up to 925 MHz, about 15 percent above the level of the original HD 7950. The clock frequency for the GDDR5 memory is left unchanged at 5,000 MHz.

The transformation takes place without hardware changes through a BIOS file available via Techpowerup’s website, originally intended only for AMD’s reference cards and media reviews. According to information, all Radeon HD 7950s manufactured after mid-August will come with the new software from the factory, which effectively means that the older version will be phased out.

SweClockers takes no responsibility for any broken graphics cards, and all experimentation takes place at your own risk. For most people, it is perfectly fine to simply overclock to the higher frequencies, without interfering with the card’s BIOS.
