In April, AMD launched the monster model Radeon HD 7990 “Malta”, a graphics card that after many ifs and buts finally took up the fight against the Geforce GTX 690. Despite the high performance, the model received a mixed reception, not least due to tricky drivers and uneven rendering times, which together with a high price did not give a convincing impression in SweClocker’s review.
However, AMD is working to rectify the shortcomings and the new driver Catalyst 13.8 Beta promises above all improved rendering times in Crossfire solutions, which also includes the Radeon HD 7990 with dual graphics processors. Now it appears that AMD is also lowering the price.
According to Techpowerup, the Radeon HD 7990 drops from a previously recommended price of $ 999 to $ 699-799, a price reduction that is noticeable at the American retailer Newegg. This also includes the Never Settle campaign with eight accompanying game titles: Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, Crysis 3, Bioshock: Infinite, Tomb Raider, Farcry 3, Hitman: Absolution, Sleeping Dogs and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
The new, lower pricing is also visible at Swedish retailers, where, among other things, the XFX Radeon HD 7990 can now be obtained for SEK 6,990 including VAT. However, it is still unclear whether this is a permanent price reduction or a temporary campaign.
