Prior to the launch of the Radeon R9 380X, many higher performance and a price between R9 380 and R9 390 were expected.
The solution is called Radeon R9 390, where AMD halved the video memory to 4 GB GDDR5. Otherwise, the specifications are the same as for the 8 GB variant, ie 2,560 stream processors up to 1,000 MHz and the memory frequency 6,000 MHz over a 512-bit bus, for a bandwidth of 384 GB / s.
The halved amount of memory means that the Radeon R9 390 4 GB can more or less be considered a renamed and overclocked R9 290, which was launched in the autumn of 2013. Among the manufacturers that are on the train with the memory configuration are AMD-exclusive Sapphire, Powercolor and XFX.
The lower amount of memory should be able to push the price by about 30-50 dollars or a few hundred bucks. Whether the Radeon R9 390 with 4 GB GDDR5 will find its way onto the Swedish market, however, is not yet known, as it currently looks as if the cards are exclusively intended for China.
