AMD Radeon “Fiji” is revealed by DICE developers

It is hardly a secret that the next generation of graphics cards from AMD is on the doorstep. Exactly what the news will be, however, is all the more obscure – information suggests that the upcoming R9 300 series largely consists of old graphics circuits in a new suit.

All the more interesting is the flagship Fiji, which by all accounts becomes a “halo product” outside the regular range. In that case, the concept is reminiscent of competitor Nvidia’s lavish Geforce GTX Titan series.

What Radeon Fiji in the reference version looks like, however, is no longer a secret. Johan Andersson, Frostbite manager at EA, shares a picture of Twitter, which by all accounts represents the upcoming flagship.

The card is strongly reminiscent of previous leaks, which indicate that the model deviates from traditional air cooling in favor of a specially tailored liquid cooler. The graphics card also does not have a DVI port, which may mean that AMD invests fully in Displayport and HDMI.

AMD Fiji is rumored to be a graphics monster of rank. The highlight is not only a new graphics processor, but also stacked memories according to High Bandwith Memory from SK Hynix. It provides significantly increased bandwidth and lower power consumption, which opens up for additional performance.

AMD is expected to present the Radeon 300 series at the Computex trade fair in early June. The flagship Fiji, on the other hand, will have to wait another couple of weeks as AMD looks set to save the model for the E3 gaming fair, which begins in the middle of the same month.
