AMD Radeon RX Vega poses in pictures and performance tests

The prelude to the launch of the Vega graphics architecture has been stormy, with an expected launch in May culminating in the release of the Vega Frontier Edition for professional use at the end of June. AMD then stated that game-oriented RX Vega would not be far away, and in recent weeks the leaks have been dripping.

Now HardOCP reveals images on an AMD Radeon RX Vega in reference version, while 3DMark Firestrike numbers signed Videocardz are also looking out. The card is clocked at 1,630 MHz, compared to 1,600 MHz for the Frontier Edition. Furthermore, it is equipped with 8 GB of HBM2 memory which is tough at the speed of 1,890 MHz, half of the 16 GB that the Frontier Edition is equipped with.

With a graphics score of 22,230, the card lands in roughly the same class or just below Nvidia’s GTX 1080, which usually ends up between 22-24,000 points. Vega Frontier Edition scored 22,900 points in the same test a month ago. AMD itself claims that RX Vega will perform better than Frontier Edition in games, a claim that is not substantiated by the leaked results in Firestrike.

The card’s design is very similar to the reference design for the RX 480 and RX 580, where what looks like a rubberized texture covers the front. Furthermore, there is a BIOS switch, an LED-equipped logo with the name Radeon, and what appears to be a black cover plate.

The Radeon RX Vega will be launched at Siggraph on July 30, and sales are expected to begin shortly thereafter in August. Price and availability in Swedish stores are, however, unknown.
