AMD Radeon VII in short supply in Europe on launch day

Soon it’s time for the launch of AMD’s graphics card Radeon VII, which is based on the new graphics circuit Vega 20. New for it is that it will be the first to be manufactured with 7-nanometer technology at the same time as it is aimed at ordinary consumers and according to AMD should it performs in class with competitor Nvidia’s Geforce RTX 2080.

SweClockers has spoken with one of the largest retailers of hardware in Sweden, which testifies to an allocation corresponding to “a handful of graphics cards”. In a post on Overclocker UK’s forum, “Gibbo”, who is employed by the English retailer, says that they receive between 75 and 80 graphics cards and a total of around 150 will be for sale in the UK on the launch day.

He also says that most of the graphics cards they receive will be models from Sapphire and MSI, with around 30 and 20 respectively. It is already known that all models use AMD’s own reference design and are identical when it comes to specifications. The only difference is stickers on fans and cardboard.

Previous information has suggested that a total of 5,000 copies of the Radeon VII will be manufactured, and then distributed to dealers worldwide. AMD went out shortly afterwards and announced that the supply of graphics cards will meet demand, but they did not want to confirm or deny the information on specific numbers.

AMD Radeon VII will be launched on February 7 and has a recommended price tag of 699 USD, corresponding to just under SEK 7,900 including VAT. However, no price in Sweden has yet been announced.

Update 2019-02-07, at 08:25: Now the French hardware site Cowcotland also reports a screaming low availability of Radeon VII on the launch day. According to the report, France and Spain together receive an allocation of only 20 copies.
