The latest versions of the Catalyst driver have limited compatibility, and only work with newer graphics cards in the Radeon family. Now AMD is closing the gap with another version of Catalyst 12.6 Beta, this time for older models.
However, the change log is meager, and AMD is clear that the focus in the future will primarily be on solving application-specific problems. The company believes that the software is already fully optimized for the older graphics cards, and that general performance gains are therefore not forthcoming.
Catalyst 12.6 Beta for the Radeon HD 2000, HD 3000 and HD 4000 series seals a security hole related to video management, and improves system stability. The driver is available for Windows 7, Vista and XP as well as Linux, and can be downloaded from the company website.
