Apple does not make games and makes more money than Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox combined

According to a Wall Street Journal analysis, Apple’s gaming operating income amounted to $ 8.5 billion, surpassing the combined gaming operating margins of the other four companies in the same period. Unsurprisingly, Apple said the operating benefits discussed during the trial they were wrong and therefore too high.

Another insight into how much Apple raises from the App Store and games comes from analytics firm Sensor Tower. Apple received $ 15.9 billion in revenue from the App Store in 2019, with an estimated 69% coming from games. Using Apple’s operating profit calculation from court records, the App Store had an implicit operating profit of $ 12.3 billion that year. That’s nearly 1 in every $ 5 of operating profit company-wide.

According to the Journal’s analysis, games alone generate $ 8.5 billion in revenue. That’s $ 2 billion more than the operating profit generated in the industry during the equivalent 12 months from gaming giants like Sony, Activision, Nintendo and Microsoft.
