Decentraland: a Second Life with blockchain supplement and tokens

The world and virtual game Decentraland, inspired by Second Life, opened its doors this week. Blockchain-based Ethereum, it offers first players to win $ 100,000 worth of virtual items and MANA, its cryptocurrency.

Second Life, a metavers or virtual 3D universe, started the adventure in 2003. Accessible free of charge from a browser, it has enjoyed great success, including with businesses. Large groups have created digital seats there.

Commercial success was not there, however. Decentraland hope to turn him into the essay. It differs from Second Life thanks to the use of blockchain (Ethereum) and tokens, including a cryptocurrency, Decentraland (MANA).

Virtual objects and land for sale

To develop this virtual universe, the editor had raised more than $ 20 million in 2017 through a ICO. Part of this money was therefore invested to pay its developers. The game now hopes to generate income.

To achieve this, various products and services are available for sale in Decentraland. Three types of tokens are thus accessible: its cryptocurrency MANA, Wear (virtual objects like CryptoKitties and Axie Infinity) and Land, virtual properties that can be acquired through Mana.

according to Bloomberg, which cites data from the NonFungible tracker, the purchase of virtual land is booming. Transactions in this area accounted for one million dollars in the last 10 days.

Access through an Ethereum wallet

Sure Decentraland, as noted CoinDesk, buying a plot (90,000 in total) is not within the reach of all budgets. Count 600 dollars in Mana for the least expensive. The creators hope in this area to interest creatives or companies wishing to reach an audience.

To generate revenue, however, the publisher also relies on virtual objects and paid games integrated into the universe. Decentraland has already planned to set up a virtual casino. The players will be able to gain gains there, but also especially to lose some.

The connection is therefore not made through a traditional account creation with username and password. Players connect instead with their Ethereum wallets, necessary for in-app payments.
