Devcon 5 has gathered thousands of Ethereum project technologists and supporters

The ethereum community is currently facing the difficult task of expanding the blockchain ecosystem to safely support growing demand for use cases. Thousands of project technologists and supporters gathered at Devcon 5 this week to discuss the details.

Devcon 5 is a key place to determine network priorities for the coming year.

Panels and workshops on issues such as scaling of decentralized applications address topics at all skill levels. Sometimes engineers raise issues that have been handled to serve customers, other times users ask about price mechanisms. There are even some discussions reserved for Ethereum rivals, such as OpenLibra or Ethereum Classic.

Ethereum 2.0 – another technology?

To date, there are no concrete plans and agreements to address the limitations of the current ecosystem, with the next iteration of the blockchain, ETH 2.0. There are several proposals in the evaluation process and thousands of people have invested more in testing these theories.

Ethereum Foundation Developer Danny Ryan said community members can contribute to trial comments and requests through GitHub and Ethresear.ch. He emphasized that there will certainly be a more concrete compatibility plan between Ethereum and ETH 2.0 in 2020.

Critics have always commented on the use of vague terms when it comes to defining Ethereum development goals. Many supporters of the project point out, however, that this is an experiment of developing a completely new infrastructure.

ConsenSys security engineer Shayan Eskandari, a bitcoiner since 2011, said that Ethereum and Bitcoin have different philosophies.

“It’s like comparing gold to ice cream. Ethereum is like a playground where you can do just about anything you want, although everything will change, “he said, adding:

“Ethereum does not want to try to build censorship-resistant money, it is about creating an open system. “
