Etihad Airways Airlines uses Winding Tree blockchain platform

UAE national airline Etihad Airways has teamed up with Swiss startup Winding Tree to improve the operation of its internal information systems.

Swiss startup Winding Tree will offer its blockchain platform to provide logistical support for the Etihad Airways distribution system. This will allow the airline to bypass third-party operators that currently oversee areas such as travel routes and baggage tracking.

Etihad Airways’ Digital Technology and Innovation Director, Tristan Thomas, said resellers often provide overpriced services.

“Only a few dare to make revolutionary changes to the distribution system, as large players with very significant profits work in this industry, which greatly complicated other firms from entering this industry,” said Thomas.

Winding Tree COO Pedro Anderson also noted:

“We experimented and introduced new solutions for the platform. This ultimately benefits the consumer. When innovations appear, global changes in work occur and competition arises, which leads to improved price offers for the end user. ”

With great potential and the ability to manage huge amounts of data, Winding Tree can compete not only with global distribution systems operated by large companies such as Amadeus and Saber, but also with consumer-oriented websites such as Expedia and Booking.com.

Winding Tree provides real-time information systems for a number of airlines, hotels and travel agencies around the world. The startup has already entered into agreements with numerous well-known airlines, including Air Canada, Air France-KLM, Lufthansa and subsidiaries Eurowings, Swiss Air, Swissport, Brussels Airlines, Austrian Airlines and Air New Zealand.
