Experts recorded a surge in DDoS attacks on military online stores

MOSCOW, 17 Oct — PRIME. StormWall experts recorded a surge in DDoS attacks on online stores selling military uniforms in September, many of the retailers were unprepared for this, despite the fact that the maximum power of DDoS attacks was 100,000 requests per second, a cybersecurity company told RIA Novosti .

Professional market participants develop leaflets for mobilized investors

“At the end of September 2022, StormWall experts managed to record an unprecedented surge in DDoS attacks on online stores selling military uniforms. Previously, experts had not yet encountered attacks on such online stores, this situation arose for the first time. A surge in attacks occurred during a partial mobilization in Russia, when online stores selling military uniforms gained immense importance and were incredibly in demand.

It is clarified that DDoS attacks on army online stores were organized by “motivated hacktivists” who sought to disrupt store websites and make it difficult for people to buy goods. According to experts, the “hacktivists” tried to “prevent partial mobilization in Russia.” In addition, according to the cybersecurity company, calls for attacks on army online stores, as well as lists of store websites, were published “in the Telegram channels of the IT army of Ukraine.”

“According to experts, more than 70 online stores were attacked in 10 regions of Russia, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Voronezh, Murmansk and other cities … Most online stores were completely unprepared for DDoS attacks and suffered greatly from actions of hacktivists,” the company stressed.

Analysts also said that the maximum power of DDoS attacks on army online stores was “100,000 requests per second.” The company noted that most stores did not use professional protection against DDoS attacks, so even this power was enough to disable sites, which led to “huge damage.”

“We regularly observe DDoS attacks by hacktivists on the e-commerce sector, but this is the first time we have detected attacks on army stores in our many years of practice. Since there were no such attacks before, online stores were not prepared for them and turned out to be completely helpless in this situation “, – the words of StormWall co-founder Ramil Khantimirov are quoted in the message.
