Fight against the COVID-19 virus supported by Bitcoin farms

The blockchain company Bitfury has announced that it has donated part of its GPU-based computing power for coronavirus research.

The Amsterdam company said that since March 20, the GPU computer nodes have been working for the COVID-19 research project “[email protected] home “. It was launched in February by the University of Washington. The project uses a computer network to run simulations for the structure of the coronavirus protein, which could help develop a vaccine. Results of calculations [email protected] are publicly available and can be used by any organization working on a vaccine, treatment or other research on COVID-19.

“Our contribution with computing power is less important compared to the efforts of the medical staff and other essential employees who work in the front lines of defense against this virus. However, we are confident that the project [email protected], along with the work of many researchers and physicians, will significantly advance the understanding and treatment of this disease “,

said Bitfury CEO Valery Vavilov.

Fight against COVID-19 virus

The BitFury stock of ASIC miners will continue to work on the Bitcoin blockchain. From this point of view, GPUs are much more versatile, because ASICs are highly specialized and cannot be easily moved to other projects.

Bitfury joins mining operator CoreWeave, which announced on March 19 that it has dedicated about 6,000 GPUs to the project [email protected]

Even the Romanian mining farm in Toplița, Blockchain Hosting, supports the fight against the COVID-19 virus. He announced that he has donated the computing power of 10 mining rigs for the project.

“We support the project [email protected] because we understand how important it is to find a vaccine against the COVID-19 virus ”,

said Adrian Pop for GDB.
