HELSINKI, Aug 29 – PRIME. Finland’s Väre, one of dozens of electricity retailers in Finland, said it was getting a lot of inquiries about being able to switch contact from day to night electricity, according to public broadcaster YLE.
We are talking about industries with a high degree of automation, where the work is performed by robots.
“Electricity sales company Väre is in talks with 10 consumer companies to move production away from its most expensive watches. The company receives new inquiries every day. Across the country, dozens of companies are considering the savings that night work can bring,” the statement said.
Savings from cheap electricity at night are currently being explored, especially in small and medium-sized industries, which have hitherto worked mostly during the day.
It is clarified that the changes will also require negotiations with workers and trade unions, since night work in Finland has significant allowances and shorter shifts.
Väre’s CEO, Juha Keski-Karhu, has calculated that, for example, a small business consuming 500 MWh per year could save up to 50,000 euros on energy bills. For large customers, consumption can be several gigawatt-hours per year, in which case the savings are already in the millions of euros, the report says.
