The American concern Ford has announced the launch of a pilot program under which distributed registry technology will be used to reduce fuel consumption by cars.
A pilot program was launched in the German city of Cologne in collaboration with local authorities. It is reported that the system automatically selects the required engine and transmission modes to reduce fuel consumption. At the same time, the blockchain is used to monitor fuel consumption and vehicle operating modes.
At the moment, 10 hybrid cars are already equipped with special equipment and cellular modems for location tracking. As soon as the car enters the zone with low emissions, they automatically switch to electric drive. At the same time, data on the time of entry and exit from such a zone is recorded in the blockchain and transmitted to the authorities in real time.
“The safety, trust and transparency of car emissions data is critical to all project participants and key to cleaner air in the city,” said Gunnar Herrmann, Chairman of the Management Board of Ford-Werke.
Recall that recently BMW, General Motors, Ford, Renault and Honda announced the beginning of testing the vehicle identification system and payment solution on the blockchain.
