Geforce GTX 1060 does not support SLI

The battle for customers in the middle segment for graphics cards is starting to heat up. AMD launched the newcomer Radeon RX 480 just last week and now pictures and information about Nvidia’s upcoming mid-range card Geforce GTX 1060 have found their way online.

The Polish web publication Pure PC leaked the pictures on the card. A remarkable news that is revealed is that the card does not have an SLI bridge, which indicates that it will not be possible to pair GTX 1060 cards via SLI. AMD supports pairing of four Radeon RX 480 via Crossfire.

Other interesting details that the pictures reveal are that the circuit board is significantly shorter than the total length of the card, about half as long. Unlike many other cards with a shorter circuit area, the power connection is not at the center of the card but at its rear.

The power supply is via a single 6-pin PCI Express connection. In the leaked pictures, the power lines appear to be soldered to the circuit surface. If this is true, the Geforce GTX 1060 could be a more cumbersome product to modify with, for example, third-party coolers.

The image on the back of the card also strengthens information about a 192-bit memory bus as a matching number of memory circuits do not appear to be connected. When companies are going to launch scaled-down versions of larger circuits, a common method is to simply disable or exclude components that are part of the larger circuit.

Nvidia is expected to unveil the Geforce GTX 1060 in the coming weeks.
