Yesterday’s silent introduction of the Geforce GTX 660 (OEM) is not just news for computer manufacturers. A “virtually” identical model will also appear in the consumer market, sources close to Nvidia tell SweClockers.
Contrary to previous speculations, the Geforce GTX 660 is not based on the GK104 graphics processor, like its cousin the GTX 660 Ti. Instead, the brand new circuit GK106 is used, which is smaller in surface area and thus cheaper to manufacture. However, the architecture is still Kepler at 28 nanometers.
The same source states that the upcoming graphics card does not have the same specifications as the Geforce GTX 660 for OEM. The latter has 1,152 CUDA cores, 192-bit memory bus and the clock frequencies 823/888 MHz GPU (base / boost) and 5.8 GHz GDDR5.
The Geforce GTX 660 will be available at regular retailers in early September and is expected to cost a little over SEK 2,000 including VAT. It is on the same level as the Geforce GTX 560 Ti, which went for around SEK 2,300 at the launch in January 2011.
