Geforce GTX Titan Z slower, warmer and significantly more expensive than Radeon R9 295X2

It continues to buzz around Nvidia’s monster model Geforce GTX Titan Z. The graphics card was announced at the end of March and would go on sale on April 29, but for some reason Nvidia decided to postpone the launch to the future. Maybe because the new flagship would not succeed in trumping the competitor Radeon R9 295X2 in performance.

Chinese DIY Pro is now publishing performance tests that appear to confirm the suspicions. The magazine has managed to get its hands on a Geforce GTX Titan Z from the manufacturer Inno3D and according to the result, Nvidia’s worst can not beat the competitor Radeon R9 295X2.

The as yet unreleased graphics card is mainly slower in the test program 3DMark, but is on the other hand the better model in the games Batman: Arkham Origins and Tomb Raider, among others. However, two Geforce GTX 780 Ti in SLI run past the two monster models and appear to be by far the most cost-effective solution.

The review also states the hitherto unknown clock frequencies. The Geforce GTX Titan Z contains two GK110s with a total of 5,760 CUDA cores and 12 GB of memory. The graphics processor is set to 706/876 MHz at base respective boost, which is significantly lower than both the Geforce GTX 780 Ti and the Titan Black. However, the memory frequency is the same at 7,010 MHz.

No TDP value is stated, but the testers note that the Titan Z runs significantly hotter than the water-cooled Radeon R9 295X2, despite the fact that Nvidia uses a reference cooler on steroids. The power consumption for the entire test system amounts to 618 W, which is still lower than the 678.5 W shown with AMD’s graphics card.

It is not yet known when or if the Geforce GTX Titan Z will hit the market. According to previous information, the graphics card will cost close to SEK 30,000 including VAT, ie approximately twice as much as from the Radeon R9 295X.
