We am creating this post to better understand the algorithm and overclocking.
We searched for this and found so many topics that instead of gaining more knowledge, now I am even more confused.
If recently started digging in the mining industry, I have 2x GTX 1060 6GB (asus strix, micron memory) and 1x GTX 970 (KFA2 HOF), which work almost the same as gtx 1060. I started mining on win10, but switched to HiveOS as I have stable overclocking.
When using win10 with default OC settings, I used a great MPH miner, but when I switch to HiveOS, I primarily focus on Equihash. But now I want to learn Ethash from Google, which I did. I came to realize that Ethash doesn’t use core frequency much, so people go for -200. But I would like to know if this is correct.
Right now with my current OC for Equihash – GTX 1060 6GB +75 cores +600 and power cap is set to 110W (so hiveos sets power cap in watts, not%) GTX 970 4GB +75 cores + 750 Memory and the power limit is set to 150W
The gtx 1060 gets about 320 sol / s and the gtx 970 gets about 290 sol / s.
Both cards are stable at 68 degrees (I’d like to downgrade)
I recently switched to Ethash mining and noticed that both cards are getting around 22 Mh / s, so around 40-45 Mh / s in total. However, the installation crashes due to overclocking and is unstable. On Windows I get 19.5 Mh / s with my GTX 1060 and 22 with my GTX 970 with similar OC settings. On HiveOS I get 22-24 MH / s on a GTX 1060 and around 22 on a GTX 970 with similar settings but very unstable.
So, after this long text, my question is basically this .. how can I improve this. Do I need to lower the core frequency = less power and increase the memory frequency?
