Huawei patented a smartphone with an unusual curved screen

Another patent filed by Huawei has surfaced. This time it is for a smartphone with a super curved display and many functions located on the side edges. Some speculate that it could be the Mate 50.

New Huawei patent – smartphone with a super curved screen

The curved screen on the smartphone is not new to us, but the one that Huawei patented definitely stands out from the competition. According to the LetsGoDigital website, the company filed it with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in March 2019. However, it was released only recently, and the documentation describes a device with a very rounded screen, called “Arc display”.

As you can see in the renderings based on the sketches in the documentation, the curved screen looks a bit different than the ones we know. The display covers the entire sides of the device all the way to the rear. This leaves no room for the function keys, so they will just be on the tactile edges. There you will find, for example, volume “buttons”, but also those that facilitate playing in landscape mode. Of course, the image displayed on the screen should also extend to the sides.

The documentation also shows that the side edges will be more sensitive to pressure, so that a stronger touch may activate other functions than those that we activate with a lighter touch. Even more detailed 3D renderings have appeared showing this device. It must be admitted that not only the edges are impressive. The screen extends practically over the entire front of the smartphone, and the frames at the top and bottom have been minimized. The camera is also to be placed under the screen, which will definitely fit this device.

The website speculates that it may be a Mate 50 series project. Is it really so? We do not know this, but this concept would definitely make this smartphone stand out on the market. Of course, it is uncertain whether such a device will go into production at all. For now, we will be observing and checking reports on this topic.
