In Europe, the UGS occupancy level approached 80%

MOSCOW, August 30 – PRIME. The average occupancy of European underground gas storages (UGS) has almost reached the target level of 80%, while wind generation in the region is declining, according to the Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) Association of Gas Infrastructure Operators Europe (GIE) and WindEurope.

Against the background of the energy crisis in the region, the European Union adopted rules in June according to which European UGS facilities must be filled at least 80% by November 1, 2022, and in subsequent years – by 90%. According to the GIE, ten of the 19 countries in the community with gas storage facilities have exceeded the 80% target. We are talking about Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Sweden.

It is noted that at the end of the gas day on August 28 (ended at 7.00 Moscow time on August 29), the “subways” in the European Union were filled by 79.94%, the increase for the day amounted to 0.41 percentage points (p.p.). The download rate is growing for the third day (0.38 and 0.32 percentage points the previous day). In total, there are about 80.7 billion cubic meters of gas in storage facilities. At the same time, according to the WindEurope Association, wind power generation in Europe fell to 9.3% of the total (12.8% the previous day). This is below the average for June and July of 11.23% and 11.86%, respectively.

Meanwhile, supplies of Russian pipeline gas in transit through Ukraine and via Nord Stream remain limited and are expected to be at the level of previous days on August 30. Thus, the application for pumping through the gas measuring station (GIS) “Sudzha”, according to the website of the “GTS Operator of Ukraine”, as of Tuesday is 42.15 million cubic meters. At the level of 40-42 million, the indicator has been holding since the end of May. Deliveries through the GIS “Sokhanovka” are not conducted, as Ukraine rejects the application of “Gazprom”. According to the website of the operator Nord Stream AG, Nord Stream is expected to again reach about 31 million cubic meters.
