MOSCOW, 12 Sep — PRIME. Energy export revenues from Norway, one of the world’s leading gas exporters, are becoming “simply indecent” against the background of the global energy crisis in Europe, writes the British magazine The Economist.
As the newspaper’s observer recalls, the EU countries were forced to look for new sources of gas imports against the backdrop of an impending energy crisis and the threat of being left without proper energy reserves on the eve of the heating period.
“Sitting on a gas pipe” in the North Sea, Norway has offered European consumers the supply of its raw materials. Now, the article notes, Oslo’s revenue from oil, gas and electricity exports has quadrupled from $50 billion to $200 billion a year.
“As the crisis drags on, the amounts flowing north have become obscene,” the publication denounces the Scandinavian country.
In turn, Norway explains the prices for its raw materials by conditions dictated to it exclusively by the market. But the observer hints in his text that the European Union does not intend to put up with this situation. In particular, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has already expressed his indignation at the “sick prices” for Norwegian gas.
However, Norway is also facing an energy crisis this year. It was caused by the drying up of reservoirs due to drought in the region. Rising energy prices affected the metallurgical industry and enterprises that produce fertilizers.
