Intel confirms – releases first dedicated graphics card in 2020

In the autumn of 2017, AMD’s graphics manager Raja Koduri was hired by Intel, who made it clear early on that they intended to enter the graphics card market. However, concrete details about which segments they would invest in and not least a time frame were missing in connection with the formation of the department Core and Visual Computing Group.

Intel now confirms on Twitter that the first dedicated graphics card will be launched in 2020. The analyst and editor-in-chief of PC Perspective, Ryan Shrout, also says that Brian Krzanich during an event for analysts circled 2020 as the year when Intel joins Nvidia and AMD as a player in the graphics card market.

According to the report, Intel’s investment in graphics cards will include everything from data centers, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, but also solutions for workstations and games. While the company confirms that they will make solutions for all segments, it is not clear who will be the first out.

It is worth mentioning that previous rumors have talked about a launch already at CES 2019, something that is thus not true. Even when the news began to circulate, it was considered unlikely, as it takes at least three years to develop a new architecture from scratch and complete it as a final product.

According to previous information, the code name for Intel’s upcoming graphics architecture is Arctic Sound and work on the sequel Jupiter Sound is already in full swing.
