it will soon be possible to pay in XRP on Amazon and elsewhere

BitPay payment service launches new support for XRP.

The co-founder of BitPay, Tony Gallippi, confirms that users will now be able to purchase gift cards with XRP starting next week.

Gift cards allow crypto holders to easily spend their digital goods among a long list of big names, including Amazon, Burger King, and Domino’s, to name the best known of the French.

A new use of XRP

Bitpay offers businesses and individuals an easy way to accept payments in crypto, as well as store their digital assets. The company had already added support for payments XRP last October, after partnering with Ripple.

BitPay product manager Sean Rolland says the speed and scalability of the XRP sets it apart from most market assets.

BitPay customers are taking advantage of the promise of blockchain technology. Thanks to XRP, they can offer a fast, economical and scalable payment option. Adding XRP as the next blockchain asset supported by BitPay expands the choice of blockchains in the payment space.

Although its gift card service is intended for the United States, BitPay claims that it allows you to process crypto payments in over 200 countries around the world.

A fake Ripple Insight page

A recent article on the Coil platform warned users against a new type of fraudulent activity concerning the XRP register.

According to “xrplorer”, the author of the alert article, scammers have targeted readers of a fake Ripple Insights page, created by making subtle changes to the original page and using special characters to give an impression of novelty. The scammers then filled the fake Ripple Insights page with fake articles on airdrops and gifts.

xrplorer ”explains as follows:

The attackers had a plan. First, make a replica of Ripple Insights, using special characters in the domain name to make it appear legitimate [rippłe != ripple]. Next, add an article to a massive airdrop, promoting a new “Claim” feature for the XRP registry. Third, add a link to a replica of the website Bithomp, from the article, with a tool allowing to use the said “Claim” function. A bogus tool, which is only used to send codes to the attackers' website so that they can take full control of the account.

In addition, “xrplorer” noted that in the afternoon of January 16, the attackers performed the “first tests” in which small payments by 88 [0,000088 XRP] were sent through the registry, with the words “Welcome Magic!” or “Magix !!”.

Once the first tests were completed and the fake websites were ready, thousands of 88 payments were sent directly to XRP accounts which, according to “xrplorer”, were targeted by the balance. There was also a link promoting a fake airdrop, “with no other purpose than to attract recipient codes.”
