Where are the practical applications of blockchain? The KNVB already made a nice pass in the last week. The Dutch Football Association sold the ticket from the Netherlands – Estonia via the blockchain. The federation did this to prevent fraud. This appears from a blog post from Ajax Life.

Blockchain instead of PDF ticket

Instead of a ticket via a PDF file, supporters entered the stadium with an application. The barcode could only be activated when a supporter was in the stadium. That way it is impossible to copy the ticket and sell it several times. It is also more environmentally friendly, printing a ticket is a thing of the past.

How exactly the KNVB made use of blockchain is unknown. For example, we do not know whether the application runs on an open or a closed blockchain. We do know, however, that last year UEFA also used blockchain technology when purchasing tickets. This happened during the UEFA Super Cup match of Atlético Madrid against Real Madrid. All tickets were then sold via the blockchain application.

If you didn’t see the match yesterday, the Netherlands won no less than 5-0 against Estonia. Georginio Wijnaldum was the man of the match, he made a hat trick. Calvin Stengs and Myron Boadu from AZ made their debut. The latter scored just in time.
