Leak indicates August 30 as the launch date for the Geforce GTX 1180

There is always a lot of uproar ahead of the launch of a new generation of graphics cards, and the sequel to Nvidia’s successful Geforce GTX 10 family is no exception. The product family that goes by the code name Turing has previously been rumored to be launched in connection with the Gamescom trade fair in August, and now these rumors are strengthened by what is claimed to be e-mail communication between Nvidia and a partner.

The announcement confirms, among other things, the product names for the new cards such as Geforce GTX 1180, Geforce GTX 1170 and Geforce GTX 1160. The launch of the flagship model GTX 1180 will not take place until 30 August. At the end of September, the second enthusiast card GTX 1170 and something called GTX 1180+ will follow.

  • Geforce GTX 1180: August 30th

  • Geforce GTX 1170/1180+: 30 september

  • Geforce GTX 1160: 30th of October

The Geforce GTX 1180+ could represent graphics cards from partner manufacturers, and if this is true, the launch date of August 30 would apply to Nvidia’s own Founder’s Edition. It can also be a new premium variant of the flagship card with extra lavish cooling solutions and overclocking. Finally, the mid-range model Geforce GTX 1160 will be launched on October 30.

In the email, the Nvidia representative also describes how the launch dates have been postponed as the company has a large stock of graphics cards from the Geforce GTX 10 family, which is in line with what was reported earlier. To get rid of this stock, “small price reductions” must take place.

At the end of the email, it is stated that a conference call will take place on August 21, the day before Gamescom starts. This gives further credibility to the rumors that previously stated that Nvidia will present the Geforce GTX 11 generation during this year’s trade fair.
