LVMH boutiques in France to turn off night lights to save money

PARIS, Sep 15 – PRIME. The French company LVMH, which owns brands such as Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Guerlain, Moët & Chandon, Hennessy, has decided to turn off the lights in its boutiques in France at night to save energy, the company said on Thursday.

“Due to energy market tensions that risk getting worse this winter, at peak demand, the LVMH group has decided to reduce electricity consumption starting in October, first in France and then worldwide,” the company said in a release.

Measures taken include turning off boutique lighting from 10 pm to 7 am, lowering the indoor temperature by 1 degree in winter and increasing it by 1 degree in summer with the air conditioning on.

These measures will allow the company to reduce electricity consumption by 10% per year.

As noted in the release, Moët Hennesy, as part of the “energy sobriety” program announced by the French government, will reduce electricity consumption by 15% in 2023 compared to 2021 levels.

The group also notes that it will increase investment in renewable energy sources.

According to the release, the annual consumption of electricity by the LVMH group of companies in France is 354,000 MWh, which is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of a city with 150,000 inhabitants.

This summer, the French government launched an “energy sobriety” program with the goal of reducing electricity consumption by 10% to avoid shortages in the coming winter. The government called on businesses and transport companies to submit specific plans to reduce energy consumption. Some French companies, including two major glassmakers Duralex and Arc, said they had already reduced production volumes and transferred a number of employees to part-time work. Also, due to increased energy bills in the metropolis, about 30 swimming pools have stopped working, including the Pailleron, the largest sports complex in Paris.
