Millennials opt for bitcoin rather than Netflix and Microsoft

Millennials opt for bitcoin related products rather than stocks such as Netflix and Microsoft. This is the conclusion of a study by investment company Charles Schwab. It is not possible to find out how many respondents the research consists of.

Do not invest directly in bitcoin

According to Charles Schwab, millennials hold 1.84% of their portfolio in Grayscale Bitcoin Trust. That is a share that follows the bitcoin price. If the price rises, you will therefore also receive the return. You just don’t buy bitcoin directly.

The research only looked at traditional financial products. Consider shares and ETFs. The direct purchase and management of bitcoin was therefore not included in the study. So it may well be that millennials are also interested in that, but that was not included in the research.

Charles Schwab’s research group has a large wallet. The average portfolio of the millennial is $ 68,756. The research may therefore not be very representative. According to the NOS, the average millennial has too little money to buy a house, let alone to invest thousands of dollars in shares.

Yet it is interesting that investing millennials opt for bitcoin rather than other stocks. Not only Netflix and Microsoft finish lower, large companies such as Walt Disney and Alibaba also score less.

Different generations, different interests

Charles Schwab also studied other generations, such as baby boomers and generation X. Baby boomers are people born after the Second World War, roughly between 1945 and 1955. Generation X is the generation that comes after the baby boomers.

Neither of the two generations has an interest in bitcoin-related investments. Apple remains the most popular with both generation X and baby boomers, according to Charles Schwab.
