Nvidia abolishes driver support for older graphics cards

At the end of 2006, Nvidia launched the first graphics cards based on the architecture Tesla, Geforce 8800 GTX and 8800 GTS, which for a long time ravaged freely in the top of performance along with the later released 8800 Ultra. A little more than seven years later, Nvidia now announces that support for the old warriors will end.

After Release 340, any subsequent driver release starting with Release 343 will cease to support the products listed in this section.

With driver 343 and later, Nvidia will stop supporting graphics cards from the Geforce 8000 series up to the 300 series (as well as the Geforce 405). It is worth noting that it also includes graphics cards such as the Geforce GTX 285 and GTX 295. This means, among other things, that the graphics cards will no longer be performance-optimized for new game titles.

For those who sit on one of the older graphics cards, it is thus driver 340 that applies. Although support for newer drivers is discontinued, Nvidia undertakes to correct any bugs and errors in driver 340 by April 1, 2016.

A complete list of affected graphics cards is available on the Nvidia website.
