A few days ago, EVGA introduced two new Geforce GTX 780s with 6 GB of video memory. This is a doubling from previous variants and the corresponding memory configuration as the worsting model Geforce GTX Titan. However, EVGA is not alone in investing in more memory.
It now appears that Nvidia is giving the green light for all partner manufacturers to release the new Geforce GTX 780 with doubled memory. According to SweClockers, the reason is that consumers demand graphics cards with more memory, not least for games on multiple screens and in 4K resolution.
At the same time, it can be noted that the competitor AMD’s performance models in the Radeon R9 290 series contain 4 GB of memory, ie more than the corresponding graphics card in the Geforce series. The fact that Nvidia is now opening up to more lavish Geforce GTX 780s can thus also be a direct response to AMD’s success with the new graphics processor Hawaii.
