Nvidia “Ampere” continues to take shares in Steam’s hardware survey

During the month of December, we took a look at Steam’s hardware survey Software & Software Survey, where users are invited to share their system configuration on a monthly basis. Every now and then, Nvidia’s relative newcomer Geforce RTX 3080 had just entered the lists, then with a share of 0.23 percent, while we were still waiting for RTX 3090 and AMD’s Radeon RX 6000 cards in the lists.

When we fast-forward the time two months ahead and look at the most recently launched graphics cards from Nvidia and AMD, only Geforce GTX 3080 and big brother 3090 are glimpsed in the lists. The former card was in January namely in 0.63 percent of participating systems, while RTX 3090 makes its debut in the hardware list with a 0.22 percent share.

Survey graphics card, top 20.

The popular model Geforce GTX 1060 is still at the top, but falls below the 10 percent mark at the expense of cards like the GTX 1050, 1050 Ti and 1650. AMD’s most popular card still turns out to be the Radeon RX 580, which in January again climbed above 2 the percentage line for a share of 2.07 percent. Overall, Nvidia slightly increases its share, by 74.41 percent of the market, compared to AMD’s 16.49.

It is worth noting that AMD’s figures for the RDNA 2 cards in the Radeon RX 6800 and 6900 series are so insignificant that they have not yet made it to the top list, where the threshold for January is 0.15 percent. Nor does Nvidia’s recently launched card Geforce RTX 3070 or 3060 Ti give a result above this figure – all cards are instead included under the other 9.29 percent.

As usual, we also want to state that participation in the survey is voluntary – and limited to consumers with a Steam client. Pulling too large gears using the data is thus not recommended.
