Nvidia does not see AMD Vega as a threat

After establishing itself as a market leader with the Pascal architecture a year ago, Nvidia has released a long line of graphics cards in the Geforce GTX 1000 series. As recently as last night, the architecture Volta was also announced, which is said to offer as much as 40 percent better performance per watt consumed.

In the near future, AMD’s long-awaited architecture Vega will arrive, which will be the first to take the HBM2 memory technology to the consumer market and is intended to go up against Nvidia in the top performance segment. However, Nvidia does not see AMD’s upcoming flagship as a major threat.

My assessment is that the competitive position is not going to change.

In connection with Nvidia’s latest quarterly report, CEO Jen-Hsun Huang was asked what the market situation can be expected to look like in the next six months, as a result of AMD launching its “new platform” for gaming. In response, Huang says that his assessment is that the competitive situation will not change.

The launch of the Vega architecture takes place during the second quarter of the year. Given that AMD has not yet sent out invitations to the media, most indications are that the Radeon RX Vega will not be released until later in June.
