Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 performs 27 percent better than GTX Titan X

Just in time for Computex 2016, Nvidia will launch its new flagship Geforce GTX 1080, which was unveiled in early May during the first Dreamhack event in Austin, Texas. Nvidia has already announced many details about the graphics card and much more has been leaked, something that is now followed up by a set of performance tests.

The graphics blog Videocardz has come across performance figures for the graphics card in synthetic 3DMark. The diagram shows a compilation of 3DMark 11 (Performance, Extreme) and 3DMark Firestrike (Performance, Extreme, Ultra), comparing the Geforce GTX 1080 to eight other high-performance graphics cards.

The results show that the model is almost 27 percent above the flagship Geforce GTX Titan X and 32 percent above similarly priced GTX 980 Ti. At the same time, it appears that the performance is as much as 70 percent better than its predecessor GTX 980 and nothing less than a doubling over the popular GTX 970. Compared to its closest competitor Radeon R9 Fury X, the model ranks 37 percent higher on average.

Geforce GTX 1080 is built around the GP104 graphics circuit with 2,560 CUDA cores, which are clocked at 1,607 MHz. This is accompanied by an official turbo frequency of 1,733 MHz, but in the 3DMark tests, the model must have been somewhere between 1,860 and 1,886 MHz. This is accompanied by 8 GB GDDR5X with an effective frequency of 10,000 MHz for a bandwidth of 320 GB / s.

The Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 will go on sale on May 27 for $ 699 in the reference version “Founder’s Edition” and will be followed in June by cheaper models from partners. The model will be joined on June 10 by GTX 1070, which will offer GTX Titan X performance for around SEK 4,000.
